The problem of drooping upper eyelids and excess skin accumulated in the lower eyelids are not only a sign of ageing, but also a genetic problem. Addictions, inadequate care of skin hygiene and excessive fatigue also contribute to the deepening of these unaesthetic imperfections in the eye area. The bluffroplastic treatment, proposed by specialists in aesthetic medicine, allows to rejuvenate the appearance of the eyelids.
Blefaroplasty is an aesthetic eyelid surgery to visibly restore the skin around the eyes to a younger appearance by removing excess skin. Before the procedure is performed, the plastic surgeon conducts a detailed interview with the patient and orders detailed examinations. After obtaining the results, the doctor presents the patient with the available solutions and discusses with him the course of the procedure, its price and expected results. All this depends on the size of the operation and the method used. The doctor performing the bluffroplasty must assess the patient's biological capacity in relation to his or her expectations. Apart from the surgical method, the Estell Clinic of Aesthetic Medicine also uses the following methods: chemical (mesotherapy), physical (ultrasonic lifting of Ulther and Peleve) and IQ Plasma. However, it should be remembered that they are not an alternative to surgical bluffroplasty.
What imperfections does the treatment eliminate?
Aesthetic problems of the upper eyelids, with which most patients struggle, are the occurrence of fat cushions, which give the eyes a tired look and in many cases limit the field of vision. The procedure carried out in the clinic of aesthetic medicine will allow for their reduction, and in addition it can be extended with an eyebrow lift. On the other hand, rejuvenation of the lower eyelids can be achieved by removing fat hernias, which allows to eliminate the so-called "bags", i.e. reduce the excess of tissues in the suborbital area. We are also able to correct the so-called "Valley of Tears", which also gives a visibly younger look to the skin around the eyes. In special cases, in order to take care of the natural position and shape of the lower eyelid, the bluffroplasty procedure is extended by procedures which aim at increasing the tension of the circular muscle of the eye and eyelid. Additionally, eyelid rejuvenation surgery can also be carried out by means of tranquil access - says Krzysztof Jakubowski, PhD, a specialist in general surgery from the ESTELL Aesthetic Medicine Clinic.
How is the lower and upper eyelid bluffroplasty performed?
Aesthetic surgery of the upper eyelids is carried out under local anaesthesia in outpatient conditions or at the patient's request using shallow intravenous anaesthesia in hospital conditions. In the case of lower eyelid bluffroplasty, cuts are made under general anaesthesia below the ciliary edge, and in the case of upper eyelids the surgeon makes cuts in physiological furrows. This is to minimize the visibility of post-operative scars. Blefaroplasty is performed by a plastic surgeon. Thin sutures are removed on day 7 after surgery. The return to normal functioning occurs 1-2 weeks after the surgery and the final effect will be noticed by patients within 6-8 weeks after the surgery. During convalescence it is recommended to use cool poultices. After the treatment, the eyelids seem to be rejuvenated by up to 10 years, but this does not stop their natural ageing process. Chemical and physical treatments can be performed in batches after consultation with a doctor and a cosmetologist.
What are the contraindications to the procedure?
Patients with severe heart disease, diabetes or unregulated hypertension should not opt for bluffroplasty. It is also impossible to perform the procedure in the case of vascular blemishes, anaemia and purulent inflammation of the face skin.
